Capitowl widgets put your money on your Home Screen and Lock Screen, so you can check what's left to spend today without opening the app.

Widgets need iOS 18 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 18 or later on iPad.

Add a widget to your Home Screen

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.

  2. Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then tap Add Widget.

  3. Search for Capitowl, or scroll to it in the list.

  4. Swipe to choose a widget and a size, then tap Add Widget.

  5. Tap Done.

If you're offline, your tap is saved on your device. Open Capitowl with an internet connection within 72 hours so it can finish marking the transaction reviewed; after that, the tap is dropped. Check marks don't appear while your iPhone or iPad is locked.

Sizes: small and medium.

Upcoming Bills

Bills and income due in the next two weeks. Tap a merchant bill to open its recurring details; other items open the Recurring screen.

Choose what a widget shows

You can choose what the Account and Budgets widgets show:

  1. Touch and hold the widget.

  2. Tap Edit Widget.

  3. For Account, choose Account to pick the account to show. For Budgets, choose Categories: one category for a small widget, up to four for medium or up to seven for large.

  4. Tap outside the widget to finish.

Add a widget to your Lock Screen

  1. Touch and hold your Lock Screen, then tap Customize and choose Lock Screen.

  2. Tap the area below the time, or the line above it, then choose Capitowl.

  3. Pick Left Today or To Review.

  4. Tap Done.

Left Today shows what you can spend today. To Review shows how many transactions are waiting for your review. Both can go in the line above the time or as a circular widget below it. Left Today also has a rectangular option below the time.

How up to date are widgets?

Home Screen widgets show when Capitowl last synced your data, like Updated 5 min ago. Lock Screen widgets don't show an update time.

Widgets update as Capitowl syncs and your data changes. Background updates depend on iOS, so they can be delayed. If the last sync was 12 hours ago or longer, for example because you haven't opened Capitowl recently, Home Screen widgets show Open Capitowl to refresh. Some widgets also ask you to open Capitowl when a new month starts. Open Capitowl and let it finish syncing to bring your widgets up to date.

Hide your amounts

On iPhone or iPad, to show •••• instead of your amounts on every widget:

  1. Open Capitowl and go to Settings.

  2. In the Support section, tap Hide amounts in widgets.

  3. Choose On.

On Mac, choose Capitowl > Settings…, open the Privacy tab, click Hide amounts in widgets, then choose On.

After your widgets refresh, amounts appear as ••••. Counts, like how many transactions are waiting for review, still show.

Privacy while your iPhone or iPad is locked

While your iPhone or iPad is locked, Capitowl widgets use the system's privacy display instead of your amounts. This covers widgets on the Home Screen, on the Lock Screen and in StandBy, whatever your other settings are. After you unlock, your amounts can appear again unless Hide amounts in widgets is On.

Widgets only show information that's already on your device. Signing out of Capitowl removes it from your widgets.

Demo mode

In demo mode, widgets use sample data. Daily Spending, Net Worth, Upcoming Bills and the medium Transactions To Review widget also show a Demo label.

Remove a widget

Touch and hold the widget, then tap Remove Widget.

Widgets on Mac

Capitowl's seven Home Screen widgets are also available on Mac, on the desktop and in Notification Center, in the sizes listed above. The Left Today and To Review Lock Screen widgets are on iPhone and iPad only.
